The papers of the 9th Annual Conference of the SIEF Working Group on the Ritual Year are published in this this volume.  The articles deal with the topic from different points of view, examining the correlations between politics and ritual festivities, festivals and political change, ideologies within the ritual world, national festivals, rituals and their political implications, rural festivals in the modern world, politics, rituals, and conflicting strategies.

The editors Gábor Barna and István Povedák are associates of the Department of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology and the MTA-SZTE Research Group for the Study of Religious Culture. The contributors are members of the SIEF Working Group on the Ritual Year.
